Painted Light #2 Still 26

My practice focuses around the dialogue between traditional painting and contemporary photographic processes. I am particularly interested in the conflicts and parallels between how both mediums represent ‘reality’.   My work aims to stay true to both mediums, combining the tactility and psychological presence of painting with photography’s grasp of light and spatial depth, in order to enhance the works ‘reality’.

My images are often captured from spontaneous street footage; the raw nature of the image quality creates an anonymity that diminishes the barriers between the viewing environment and the original situation.

Using figures allows me to push the images further towards, but not into complete abstraction and creates a metaphor for personal space, and individuality within the urban environment.
