Emotions Collection 2

£240.00

A collection of hanging ceramic vessels, each one portrays a human emotion. They range from dark, representing when we are at our bleakest times to being decorated with light slips and glass beads, showing our happier times. They often show both lights and darks as I believe we can never fully compartmentalise our feelings, but they cross over from one area of our lives to another.

Artist Profile

The work  deals with a range of human emotions. It shows that even in our darkest times, there are glimmers of hope, even if we can’t see them.

The metaphor of the tree, especially the silver birch is used to reflect how people function as individuals, but when coming together, as a family form something completely different, working together in a different way, like the trees in a forest.

Fundamental to the work is the ability for the pieces to be interchangeable, showing how our moods and feelings can change. An important factor is the way the work is displayed; suspending it adds to the sense of tension.

The choice of materials is deliberate, using a black chunky crank clay, colured slips and glass beads across the pieces. Edges are uneven and texture is important to relay how feelings are never compartmentalised, but  can cross over from one area of our lives to another. Happy times can be tinged with sadness and vice versa.

The work can challenging, dealing with difficult topics, but these are the things that shape us.
