Bend

The work is a translation of fantasy triggered by everyday confusions and pleasures. It revels in the co-existence of contraries, of surface and depth, of rational and irrational, of meaning and meaningless. It is about and driven by the aesthetics and implications of objects and impoverished materials, which undergo a process of re-contextualisation.

There are slippages between types of things, between drawings and objects: My types of things exist as translations of sensation. They are illogical and pleasurable.
 
I work primarily with reclaimed material and am concerned with appropriating redundant utilitarian objects and re-presenting them as fetish objects or idols.  By drawing attention to the formal and aesthetic aspects of industrial objects and subtly altering surfaces with blocks of colour or intricate pattern, the objects become anthropomorphised, genderised. Out of the disparity between utilitarian object and tattoo the objects attempt to be at one with their new found self, conveying a surprising authenticity.

The moment of uncertainty is the moment of pleasure that my work translates into types of things.
