Gesture Attempts Escape Again

£750.00

'Gesture Attempts Escape Again' is a triptych of paintings in oils on board, each of which measures only 10x15cm. It alludes to ideas of containment and the curbing of expressive gesture and feeling. The format of each panel is that of a standard photograph, and by using this small format to make precious little paintings, the difference and tension that exists between high art and low art is exemplified. It is already framed as a diptych in a high quality oak box frame, on board, without glass. (framing by the Royal Academy Framers, of Burlington Arcade).

Artist Profile

I explore ideas of transformation and mutation through the drawing or painting process, creating and obliterating as the work progresses,
from a single subject or colour, to layers of indistinguishable multiples. Each layer leads to a less tangible or obvious image, and a richer, deeper world of form and colour.

Each piece of work I embark on is an experiment, and where accident and catastrophe have their place. I do not start anything with a specific image as its readymade conclusion, I prefer to let the work develop progressively. I hope that the finished work will intrigue and draw in the spectator with
hints of the journey taken, the struggle that went into it, leaving traces of something intangible and more ambiguous in its place.
