DEICIDE PRESENTS: WOMEN WHO HELPED CHANGE THE ART WORLD
Inpsired by DegreeArt's upcoming art talk, DegreeArt would like to briefly showcase some of the most iconic works by female artsts.
Many established and emerging female artists struggle to inform, educated, contradict, and redefine female discourse in art and with the finale of Helen Gorrill's exhibition DEICIDE as well as the Art Talk this saturday, DegreeArt would like to pay tribute to those who have left a lasting legacy.

From A to Z, Rosler "shows and tells" the ingredients of the housewife's day, giving us a tour that names and mimics the ordinary with movements more samurai than suburban. Rosler's slashing gesture as she forms the letters of the alphabet in the air with a knife and fork, is a rebel gesture, punching through the "system of harnessed subjectivity" from the inside out.

Carolee Schneemann was a multimedia artist who transformed the definition of art especially in regards to the body. She was very taboo during her era, and many of her works were discredited; however, her most provocative piece ' interor scroll' still remains heavily discussed in academia.
Serbian artist Maria Abramovic created video and performance art that not only challenged the female form but the boudaries of the human body. The piece above " Art is beautiful Artist must be beautiful " is an extract from her piece created in 1975.
Yves Klein who was infamous for his color choice of blue was also an artist who utilized the female form in his work. The piece above depicts his use of women as objects within his body of work, which till this day stirs discussion of the explotation of the female form.

Judy Chicago is credited as one of the pioneers of the feminist art movement. The piece above 'Dinner Party' 1979 was a collaboration with other female textile artists to replicate and transform the idea of the Last Supper. Chicago is one of the first female artists who catalyzed the start of feminist studies in academic forums.
