Artist Profile

In my work I try to capture a natural crop of reality, an unchanged window of realism which doesn’t budge in its analyzing clarity.

My subject matter includes up-close crops of men and women’s faces unaware of the photo being taken, this could be while eating, in social interaction or just involved in average activities.
This is to add spontaneity and awkwardness to my work, as bad photos, and the snapshot is what my paintings strive to imitate.
 
I concern myself with the human face because it is what people are interested in seeing. The human face is the most commonly seen image in the world, and to see this image within in unstudied banality of everyday life really intrigues me.
 
Artists in which inspire me are from the photo/hyper-realist movements of the 60s to present day.
 
Names like Chuck Close, Richard Estes, Philip Pearlstein and Denis Peterson are heavy inspirations, through their use of the crop, manipulation of the camera and subject of the mundane. 
 
Unlike traditional portraiture, I wish to tell nothing about the character I’m portraying, but almost leave them vulnerable for a cold interpretation from the viewer.
