A portrait of self destruction - (After Cravaggio: Medusa)
The new painting series :” A portrait of self destruction”
embraces known portraits by Cravaggio (and some self portraits) which I have re-painted in full, detail to detail within a few hours to preserve the freshness of the paint and then destroyed with a few violent brush strokes, leaving a faint resemblance to the original portrait. The process creates a “vail” of which the portraits appears and disappears much same as the photographic skulls, but more so deals with notions of decomposing, creation and destruction, death in its more artistic representation, controlled by the hand of the artist, whom for a fleeting moment plays god to its creation.
