Pheasant

My work is centred around the ephemeral quality of nature. Birds are captured momentarily as though they could vanish in an instant-from the painting and perhaps nature itself.
There is an element of history within the work which stems from an interest in traditional ornithological drawings and the era they originated from.
History is also present within the layering and process of the painting; I try to evoke a sense of deterioration or accumulation over time and the trace of life passing.
Nature and wildlife are an integral part of my practise and I draw upon everyday influences such as animals, flora, zoological drawings and floral wallpaper.
