'She'

  Our ability to become immersed within narratives, and suspend our disbelief, is often juxtaposed by an oscillating detachment and withdrawal into our own personal cocoons to forge individual narratives or lives. Hence, we step in and out of daydreams, books and television screens to escape into parallel worlds. My practice aims to explore this interface of ideas and beliefs through allowing glimpses of personal narratives to intrude on the public awareness and become catalysts for imagination.

Objects that are re-cycled found or inherited dictate the outset of each piece, the conclusion is within the setting and situation. Universal narratives can be forged by thought provoking use of rural and urban landscapes, as well as public and domestic spaces that act symbiotically with the objects to create these places of fiction and reality. Gravity creates a tension within the work, a timeless freeze-frame that we can experience not just as a purely physical form, but also as an essence of mortality: designed to evoke emotions of the human consciousness.

Everyone may experience feelings of loss, depression or anxiety from time to time. However, we all dream, crave and long to escape from this melancholy state. Moments of escape and nostalgia can manifest themselves through many experiences, such as listening to a special song or revisiting a childhood haunts; escapism is key to our existence – without it, we inevitably crash. So my exploration of my own or others’ personal treasures and memories is cathartic in the way that it acts as balm to these universal feelings of tension and insecurity, through the imaginative odysseys which are offered. Materialism has the power to elevate and inspire when woven into a narrative of fantasy.
