Information 'ZAPP' by Sophie Derrick University & Course: University of Leeds, BA Fine Art. Medium: Mixed Media. Artist Profile: My Fine Art practice incorporates painting and photography. I have a great interest in the materiality and substance of paint, and execute this through photography, creating a juxtaposition of the two mediums. I photograph the act of painting on to my skin and paint on top of the photographs, creating a layering of image of paint and painted image. My body becomes the canvas. This questions the traditional concept of painting and portraiture, and the barriers between painting and photography. Piece Description: ZAPP is named after the ice lolly possessing the same colours and swirly texture as my image. I like the thick, luxurious paint and the sculptural, tangible qualities it has, influenced by Frank Auerbach. It is portraiture with a twist, my signature style. |
