My painting work is driven by my background in video.

I have experimented with the projection of video onto canvas - first a deliberately abstract, fast-moving, pixellated image, and then actual video journies. The result is a series of moments layered up and frozen on the surface of the canvas.

I tend to work in series, developing processes that explore video and film techniques - the fast pan, the freeze frame, blur and focus, rewinding and fast forwarding. All my work explores movement, or relies on movement for its creation.

Interview What is your favourite film of all time?
The Full Monty.

What music are you currently listening to and why?
The Feeling, the Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks- because I rather like them. Phil Collins, Eric Clapton and Jack Johnson because if I was sent to a desert island those are the CD's I would actually take with me!

Which living artists do you most admire and why?
Howard Hodgkin because of his extraordinary use of colour, simplicity of gesture and ability to work on a small as well as a large scale. He gave me the confidence to let go.

Which deceased artist do you most admire and why?
George Fullard, who did the most wonderful gestural pencil drawings.

Which exhibition that you have visited made the greatest impact on you and why?
Howard Hodgkin at Tate Britain, summer 2006. Because he is quite simply the artist who has inspired me the most.

What is the question you get asked most frequently about your work and how do you answer it?
What's it about? The titles tell the story.

Can you tell us about where you make your art and what if any the significance of this location is?
I used to try and produce paintings in my childrens' playroom which is now covered in paint. Now the family know I mean business they have agreed to let me convert one half of our garage into a studio.

What do like most about being an artist?
The freedom to be who I want to be. No boundaries, no deadlines and the excitement of every blank canvas.

What is your greatest achievement as an artist to date?
A first class honours degree and the sale of four paintings to people who are serious about contemporary art.

What are your plans for the coming year?
Finish my MA in style.
