My work shows the dichotomy between structure and order and then complete chaos. Deconstructing the painting by acting on impulsivity reveals the process of my own thoughts and methods throughout the course of a piece, acting on spontaneity as well as concentration. So the finished product is a reflection of what’s accidently happened, rather than the striving for an envisaged piece.
I am interested in the psychological portrayal of a scene and the paint acts as the constant struggle between obedience and ignorance. I believe interpretation always fluctuates between these two pole opposites.
The images I choose to work from are based around social media mostly, people doing everyday things and posing to the camera. This gives me a structure to build around which promotes the modern day fast paced living. At the same time I like to incorporate abstract forms and shapes to distance us from the life observed on the canvas to demonstrate hasty lifestyle. The abstract sudden swatches symbolises distractions such as emails or social network communication which clutters up the mind as well as our identity.
My work will always remain unfinished; the fluctuation between hyper realism and abstract disarray reflects the unpredictability of journey.
