Wilson is interested in materials that bring their own histories of transformation both natural and industrial such as wool grease, wood and peat ash, raw silk, soil and lard. They speak of the animals whose bodies have been stripped down, of the slowness of peat formation and its liminal state between the organic and the geological. Their composition is an embedding of time, a process that continues when she mixes, cuts, burns and compresses these materials, arriving at configurations that arise directly from the dynamic relationship between her, the space and the materials.

Wilson explores the affective power of this dialogue as a way of investigating the human relationship with and within the material world. In selecting those substances that can be managed by hand with little or no recourse to other technologies, she creates works that emerge from the flow of forces and materials in order to create a somatic experience for the beholder.
