Trappings

£250.00

This soft sculpture/collage, Trappings,  is from the Sex and the City set of textile collages in which   vintage  female clothes, jewellery,

Female adornments can be decorative and seductive. They may present as indulgent luxuries but they exist to bind and entrap the wearer.

This piece incorporates golden materials, damask, satin, leather, nylon, pins, zips and  metal costume jewellery.

It is backed with heavy cotton and presented ready for hanging.

Artist Profile

I am absorbed by the capacity of remnants, old china and other crafted belongings to evoke and resonate values now lost or in transition for they

offer glimpses of past and present human preoccupations. Digital photography and computer software can next combine to create palimpsests

of traces of existence across centuries and continents. My paintings also explore the presence of the past in the present. Pretty things can seem

decorative and indulgent distractions but can also serve to remind us of their service as tender traps.

My printed works are the result of an extensive process using both SLR digital cameras and a short focus camera to capture exceptional detail.

The subsequent images are fused and changed through the use of software, such as photoshop, to create images with implied narratives.
