UCA Farnham (BA Photography, 2008 / 2008)
Profile
Agnieszka Maksimik grew up in culture restricted by communist Poland. After studying Russian Literature she went on to do BA in Photography at the University for the Creative Arts at Farnham. She continues to live and work in the UK.
Her recent series 'Portraits. Farnham 2007-2008' is inspired by nature and it examines the relationship of the maternal body to the landscape and feelings of being close. Maksimik's work has been exhibited in group shows in London, India and Lithuania. She is also the recipent of British Council Travel Grant to the National Institute of Design, India in 2008. Her work is in the collections of individuals such as Charles Freger.

What is your favourite film of all time?

What music are you currently listening to and why?
Cinematic Orchestration, for inspiration.
Which living artists do you most admire and why?
Katy Grannan for personal portraits, Hannah Starkey for cinematic images, Tracey Emin for very personal work.
Which deceased artist do you most admire and why?
Which exhibition that you have visited made the greatest impact on you and why?
Diane Arbus retrospective because of her portraits, the quality of prints, her contact sheets and camera being in the exhibition.
What is the question you get asked most frequently about your work and how do you answer it?
How do you find your subjects? I meet them by chance and I instinctively know that they want to be photographed.
What / who inspired you to be an artist?
The loss of my father who loved to take pictures.
Can you tell us about where you make your art and what if any the significance of this location is?
I make it in the place where I live, I connect to the environment that surrounds me and I look around me and admire.
What do you like most about being an artist?
Meeting other artists
What is your greatest achievement as an artist to date?
The exhibitions that I took part in, my photography degree, collaboration with NID, India.
What are your plans for the coming year?
To continue my personal projects, try to exhibit more, promote myself.
