Interview

What is your favourite film of all time?

It varies from time to time, but Pulp Fiction stands out along with anything by Martin Scorcese & Christopher Nolan.

What music are you currently listening to and why?

Booka Shades new album, it’s tranquil yet uplifting which helps me work.

Which living artists do you most admire and why?

Jason Brooks, he’s an incredibly talented artist. His fashion illustrations are remarkable and he has set the standard with his unique style.

Which deceased artist do you most admire and why?

Salvador Dali for going against the grain and producing art using all mediums without restrictions.

Which exhibition that you have visited made the greatest impact on you and why?

Northern arts prize exhibition, it’s on every year and it’s great to see the work of the talented artist out there. Getty images in London was also incredible.

What is the question you get asked most frequently about your work and how do you answer it?

Are these the thoughts in your mind? I think we all have a darker side we’re just afraid to let it loose.

What / who inspired you to be an artist?

Jason Brooks, seeing some of his first illustrations and thinking I wish I could do that.

Can you tell us about where you make your art and what if any the significance of this location is?

Currently on my laptop on a table in the living room. It would be nice to be able to go to different locations around the world though.

What do you like most about being an artist?

The freedom to do illustrate what I want with no time restrictions and over hearing a stranger complementing your work at a show.

What is your greatest achievement as an artist to date?

Someone asking me if they can buy my work. It’s great to do something you love, but getting paid for it is a massive bonus!

What are your plans for the coming year?

Keep producing art and keep pushing myself to improve. Try and drink less coffee.

Artist's statement

Leeds based artist that has just finished an MA in Art & Design. This has helped kick start my portfolio of illustrations. I create warped illustrations using digital technologies for limited edition prints. Inspiration comes from everyday encounters,
music, film and artists such as Salvador Dali, Bruno Munari and Jason Brooks. The prints are in black and white with shades of grey, this was not intentional at first, it was more organic as I try to incorporate the darker elements and sinister
undertones of life into my illustrations.

When I’m not producing illustrations I’m designing websites, magazines and a whole host of promotional material. Producing illustrations is when I’m most happy, no brief and no limitations. My primary aim is to become a fully-fledged artist
