Profile

Clare Gosling is a London based Artist and Photographer who recently graduated from the MA in Art and Media Practice at the University of Westminster. Clare is currently working on a series of artworks for her next project. Recently Clare exhibited her project called ‘Faraway Familiar’ at her solo show at Acquire Arts in Battersea from the 30th June to the 8th of July 2011

Clare sees herself as an explorer, who loves traveling to faraway, unknown and magical places. Her artwork is an extension of her everyday (perhaps unusual faraway) and familiar experiences. Clare strives to create beautiful artwork that captures a sense of adventure and a curiosity for what is beyond the horizo

My body of work is about the travelling ‘in-between’, exploring what is faraway and what is familiar. Memories live on long after travels to distant destinations and they travel back home with us.

I have created tablets of memories from travels to places mainly across Asia. I am creating the hazy distant images I have in my mind when I remember faraway places. I am creating a new reality, by turning these memories into physical objects - working with the particular aesthetic appearance that ambiguous distant memories have. My memories of faraway places remain out of place in my familiar surroundings.

My work crosses the boundaries between photography and sculpture and has painterly elements. They come in the form of tablets made from resin that I install in a way that makes them look like they are floating on the wall.
