What is your favourite film of all time?
Probably Moulin Rouge - pure escapism!
What music are you currently listening to and why?
Mostly it's rock based like the Kings of Leon, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Nirvana, Audioslave, Coldplay, Jeff Buckley and Skunk Anansie, but I also like some opera sometimes and classical stuff... anything with some emotion in it.
Which living artists do you most admire and why?
I admire Tracy Emin for her honesty, Barbara Kruger for her 'truisms', Mark Ryden for his perfection and Fiona Rae for her imagination.
Which deceased artist do you most admire and why?
Has to be da Vinci. He was such a genius.
Which exhibition that you have visited made the greatest impact on you and why?
This sort of relates to the question above - it was the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition at The National Gallery... particularly his drawings. They were so beautiful and it was hard to believe all the works were made centuries ago - they all looked so perfect.
What is the question you get asked most frequently about your work and how do you answer it?
"You make so much work! Don't you ever run out of ideas?"
"No."
What / who inspired you to be an artist?
Well neither of my parents were artists, they're both normal. I was always driven to draw and paint - I can't remember one thing setting that off. But Dali really inspired me as a kid as his work was so weird - I loved it instantly!
Can you tell us about where you make your art and what if any the significance of this location is?
I make my art currently at home and at college, but as that is ending soon I hope to get a studio one day.
What do you like most about being an artist?
It lets me be myself and gives me a purpose. I can't help making all this work - it's just what I do and the fact it has a label helps..... kind of like when you find out the name of a disease you have when you don't feel well. It makes you feel a bit better.
What is your greatest achievement as an artist to date?
I did 2 paintings for the BBC of their new Broadcasting centre, and one was given to the Head of the BBC.
What are your plans for the coming year?
Keep on making work and hope it gets appreciated :)

Artist's statement
Education: Fine Art Bsc (Hons), Univeristy of Greenwich (2012)
Louise McNaught‘s creations feature nature, animals, and the celestial realm in glorious, blazing neon hues, where the animals are God-like, Sublime and ethereal in their luminescence. Not wishing to limit herself or her subject matter, McNaught has a mixed-media approach which usually manifests in painted-drawings on traditional and sometimes unusual supports, such as celestial maps. Her soft style suggests a delicate relationship between nature and ourselves, making a clear point about man's destruction of nature - which flutters jewel-like in the balance. By subverting traditional representation she hints at darker consequences, yet paradoxically giving animals an elevated status with the neon paint making them look as though they have their own inner light and are literally shining from within. Just as we use highlighter pens to mark areas of importance, McNaught is doing this with fluorescent paint. By drawing the viewers attention to the animals presence and energy, McNaught is hoping to share with the viewer the awe that the natural world inspires within her.
