What is your favourite film of all time?
I have a lot of favourite films! I tend to watch either action packed films, or comedies. I also quite like subtitled kung fu films!
What music are you currently listening to and why?
I'm currently listening to Hip Hop History. It's a series of mixtapes, from 1979 - 2009, each year celebrating the tracks and songs released from it. Years 89 - 98 are the best!!
Which living artists do you most admire and why?
Jenny Saville, Conor Harrington, Lucien Freud, Harry Holland, Peter doig, Adrin Ghenie and David Tress are artists that i admire and have greatly influence my work. The way their images create structure, form and a sense of atmosphere are the main factors that influence my work.
Which deceased artist do you most admire and why?
Egon Schiele, I'm really influenced by his drawing style and technique. I especially like the expressionist quality to his work.
Which exhibition that you have visited made the greatest impact on you and why?
Grow Up at the Lazarides gallery on Rathbone street London. The exhibition was full of artists that I admire and work that has influenced me. It was great to see influential paintings in the flesh and up close in person
What is the question you get asked most frequently about your work and how do you answer it?
A lot of people ask me how long it takes to do a painting. I usually answer by saying a couple of days. However I don’t take into consideration the preparation time before the painting starts. That can vary from days to weeks!
What / who inspired you to be an artist?
I think the support and encouragement I had when I was in high school inspired me to be an artist. I found my art lessons relaxing and good at improving my concentration levels. I also found that art came naturally to me and it was easy for me to get motivated.
Can you tell us about where you make your art and what if any the significance of this location is?
I Have my own place, that i like to call " The Studio", original i know!! It's an individual unit rented from Cardiff County Council where i can make as much mess and work as possible! Its situated in Cardiff Bay so i can easily pop out for some sun sea and ice cream, when its hot!
What do you like most about being an artist?
I enjoy the freedom to do what I want and love the fact that I'm doing something I enjoy.
What is your greatest achievement as an artist to date?
They are so many things I have achieved as an artist, but i think the greatest achievement was to finish University with a First Class Honours and to become the first winner of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2013, that was a once ina life time, amazing experience from start to finish!
What are your plans for the coming year?
After winning the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2013, I'm currently working on a body of work to enable me to have a solo show, it's exciting times ahead for me and my work!!

Portrait Artist of the Year Winner, 2013
I am a painter. For me it is very important to understand the medium. It a constant struggle to work with paint, It’s a love hate relationship! I find I have to engage with the paint on a new level every time I start a painting. I’m frequently exploring new possibilities and outcomes with the paint using what I’ve learnt before as a solid background. I try to paint unconsciously, painting without a clear idea or outcome. Allowing me to just let the painting happen. I work within a tight time limit that helps aid this process, preventing time wasting, forcing me to make decisions there and then. It’s an exciting process, as I never quite know what’s going to happen. At the same time its one of the most frustrating things ever! I run out of patience far too quickly and find that I have to constantly re-invent myself as a painter. I can’t just do what I’ve done before, I want to advance and move on. This is the hardest and most enjoyable part of my practice, that notion of re-invention and constant development.
