Interview

What is your favourite film of all time?

The Fountain, directed by Darren Aronofsky - visually stunning.

What music are you currently listening to and why?

Björk - Biophilia. It explores the boundary between nature and technology.

Which living artists do you most admire and why?

Jane Bown - my favourite photographer. I love the way she can capture a person's personality in her images.

Which deceased artist do you most admire and why?

Salvador Dalí.

Which exhibition that you have visited made the greatest impact on you and why?

Annie Leibovitz - A Photographer's Life

It was amazing to see such a diverse mix of both professional and extremely personal and moving work within the same exhibition.

What is the question you get asked most frequently about your work and how do you answer it?

'What does it mean?'

I like to leave my work open to interpretation. I enjoy hearing other people's perspectives on the meanings of my work.

What / who inspired you to be an artist?

I've always been a very visual person, I've played around in different media, but photography is my main interest. I started taking pictures as a child, and never stopped.

Can you tell us about where you make your art and what if any the significance of this location is?

Currently, most of my images relate to the nature and culture of Iceland. The extreme contrasts of the landscape, and the rich cultural scene inspire me to create my work.

What do you like most about being an artist?

The freedom to create work that makes people think.

What is your greatest achievement as an artist to date?

Exhibiting in Ambika P3 as part of my degree show - it was the culmination of 3 years of hard work.

What are your plans for the coming year?

Create more work inspired by Iceland, and hopefully try to exhibit some of it there.
