Silkscreen

Silkscreen, also called serigraph, is a stencilling technique for printing. Designs are cut out of paper and then affixed to mesh cloth stretched over a heavy wooden frame, the work is then printed by rolling or squeegeeing ink or paint across the screen. It was originally developed for advertising and commercial work but in the 1950s artists started to play with the process. We have put together some of our favourite and varied examples of how this technique can be used to create diverse and striking images.
