Three3Three - Jose Manuel Lourenco’s Debut Solo Show | DegreeArt.com The Original Online Art Gallery

PRESS RELEASE:
The Directors of DegreeArt.com are pleased to announce the debut solo show of 2008 Chelsea College of Art graduate Jose Manuel Lourenco.

An important number for many cultures, the number three is bound up in our spiritual, mathematic and scientific worlds. In this exhibition, Portugese artist Jose Manuel Lourenco, exhibits work concerned with this number, demonstrating the variation and development of his practice since graduation.

The exhibition consists of a combination of oil on canvas paintings and heavy 3D sculpted wall works which are layered with mystery and meaning. Brooding volcanic landscapes run through his work, evoking a sense of immanency or immediate aftermath. His figurative work is indicative of Gauguin’s non-naturalistic, primitive style, whilst his landscapes draw parallels with the exaggerated skies and atmospheres of Frederick Church.

Jose combines traditional techniques, used by painters and sculptors over the centuries, with new materials and perspectives. Since graduating in 2008, Jose has successfully made the transition from student to established artists selling to an international audience.
