Inspired by post-war American Pop art and Russian 1930’s posters, ‘Sunshine Coast' uses simple symmetrical planes and sharp edges to create an awe of advertising and branding. The title 'Sunshine Coast' (taken from a contemporary holiday advertisement) reinforces such ideas, transforming this painting into an icon for desire and success. Aesthetic perfection is explored through the surface of this painting, using multiple layers of gesso to prime the surface, a roller to apply paint, and masking tape to achieve clean, straight lines, the artist's aim is to create immaculate, flat painting which resembles screen.
