Leah Michelle

Courtauld Institute of Art (MA Art History , 2009)

Leah’s vibrant multi-layered acrylic paintings are created with the idea of capturing the beauty that is always around us. Her primary focus is creating beautiful works of art that make viewers smile and live in the moment. Her background in Italian Renaissance Art influences her use of compositional constraints combined with loose, distinct brushstrokes to purposefully provide the viewer with a way to relate directly with the organised painted surface. It depicts the essence of how colour can be the source of beauty in itself regardless of the subject matter. Whilst her subject matters can change throughout each series, Leah continues to challenge the formal idea of painting by creating new works that investigate this connection and, indeed, disconnection to composition, colours and our emotions.

After obtaining her Masters in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art in 2009, Leah began to exhibit and sell her work internationally. Since then she has been commissioned to create abstract collections for corporate clients, London cityscapes, gardens 'en-plein-air' and pet portraits. Her work can be found in galleries across the UK and in private collections around the world, including New York City, Hong Kong, London, Brighton, the Cotswolds, Sussex, Italy, Mauritius, Bahamas, Colorado and Texas. Her work also hangs worldwide in corporate collections including in the iconic Lloyds of London building and Canaletto Towers in central London, Ebby Halliday headquarters in Dallas, Texas, the award-winning Legacy West in Plano, Texas and educational institutions in Roanoke, Virginia. She continues to work on commissions for corporate and private clients from her London home studio.
