Kindred Portraits is a series of paintings produced by Kwesi Awotwi. Focused on showing each of his blood relatives. His work is combined with different art movements which are embedded in his artistic practice these are primarily African art, Modern art, Expressionism, The Harlem Renaissance, and Dynamic cubism. Sy is the third painting, from the Kindred portrait series. Kwesi paints his first cousin from his mother's side of the Osei family. Kwesi does this by applying thick wet paint on canvas and attempts to create an expressive textured mask sculpted face of him, with also elongated figurative proportions.
