I paint spontaneously using colour, mark and material to recreate a sense of place and the feelings it evoked. Few works are planned and I am always exploring. The only constant is my struggle to find the right balance between precision and expression. I don’t find the painting, it is the painting that eventually finds me.
Over the last 12 months I have shown paintings at Liberty in London and CCA Galleries International in Jersey and was lucky enough to have a major retrospective spanning a decade of landscape painting at one of the UK’s most prestigious public art galleries. My signature journey paintings on aluminium hover between figurative and abstract. Material and surface are all important and I don’t just paint on metal but sand, scratch and drill into it as well so that it becomes an integral part of my work. Recently I have also started painting on bespoke birch panels that are sanded and primed until they are as smooth as glass.
