Tuesday 27th June saw, for the very first time, iconic department store Liberty London open its doors to the Affordable Art Fair, who have recently held their resoundingly successful Hampstead Heath Art Fair. Showcasing a variety of unique and contemporary paintings, editorial prints, and sculptures, all within the fair's price band of £100-£6000, affordable and original artwork usually only found together at the art fairs is available in central London.
Held on the 4th Floor, ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ showcases a hand-picked selection of artwork from their contemporary art galleries, to launch the 2017 autumn fairs schedule, Affordable Art Fair Battersea and Bristol.
Featured in the Liberty show is our artist, Michael Wallner who has spent more than twenty years in the media industry working on entertainment programmes, talk shows, documentaries, and a children’s novel. But creating original and innovative art is his true passion. He now works out of Wimbledon Art Studios in South London as a full-time artist. Michael has produced two unique Liberty pieces inspired by the building's architecture.
In recent years, Michael has moved into more ambitious work – digitally manipulating his own photographs to produce unusual art and installations using a variety of surfaces and mediums including L.E.Ds, neon, brushed aluminium, reclaimed wood, laser-cut acrylic. He is constantly searching for exciting new materials to experiment on. Current experiments include working on concrete and 1930's reclaimed windows.
Michael's latest work celebrates the beauty of the city through the shapes and outlines that define its landmarks and character. London, New York, Hong Kong, Paris and Singapore all feature in his latest collection; namely his ‘Little Liberty’ piece that is featured in the show.
Featuring alongside Michael in the ‘Tale of Two Cities’ exhibition is DegreeArt.com artist, Jayson Lilley, with his practice which incorporates both painting and screen printing, and is characterized by its strong compositional form in a limited palette, where he uses high contrasts with light and shadow to convey form and silhouette.
DegreeArt.com and Contemporary Collective will be featured in both the Bristol and Battersea editions of the Affordable Art Fair:
Bristol: 8th -10th September 2017
