All of Alice's paintings are built up layer upon layer. The first layer is a piece of hardboard covered in Gesso as the base. The second layer takes a sandy coloured plaster followed by a light grey One Coat builder’s plaster. The final layer is plaster of paris mixed with water and PVA glue that hardens in about two minutes once it has been troweled on. Before the last layer dries Alice uses, combs, knifes and varies utensils to make bold marks into the plaster, which are then highlighted with colour as the painting progresses. Alice uses Acrylics so she can layer up colours quickly and scrape back through them to reveal the plaster behind.
