Competed by the artist during her 2025/26 Residency at the Bankside Hotel. Over the last decade, dramatic sky formations and colors have been a continuous source of inspiration for her palette. Weaving the visual narrative between opulence and deliberate scarcity into canvased realms. In this latest iteration the artist attempts to change the observers view on portraiture as she draws the comparison between celestial entity and female kind. Instead of admiring the exterior of a woman that these days could be easily altered, Yuliya looks at female beauty through more abstract qualities. With feather like structures, she explore the ephemeral beauty of transformation through the metaphor of sunset clouds. Vibrant yet fleeting, the pastel hues and soft, gestural forms mirror the transient essence of femininity and nature. As clouds dissolve and reform, they echo the ever-changing journey of a woman’s life. As the artist grasps with the fading grace of her own, she embraces the impermanence of beauty as an integral part of its allure, reconciling beautiful life’s moments with their enduring emotional impact. PROCESS: This is a fast paced, highly intuitive, creative process. The initial artwork can be created in a matter of hour. Revisited later to add additional layers and depth. There is no pre-conceived idea as such. There is a palette chosen to reflect on a perception of a female model and how the artist interprets her character through encounter or intel data. Much like a puzzle but a lot faster, Yuliya tries to complete the artwork on a single breath. She uses high precision to apply oil paint on a surface primed with lightly florescent base to create a subtle but obvious contrast between glowing background and clouds.
