This work features a portrait of Cosimo II de Medici, the Grand Duke of Tuscany 1639, photobombed by none other than hip-hop star Drake, wearing Giggs merch. Co-supervised by the Royal College of Art awarded with a PhD in Contemporary British Painting, Helen Gørrill draws inspiration from old masters portraits whilst incorporating contemporary imagery and mixed media. This juxtaposition of style allows the artist to successfully revive historical art portraits, incorporating elements from contemporary sub-cultures and trends of modern society.
