Tumbling Through Seven is one of a set of similar paintings which take inspiration from the shapes, colours and textures of some of the Ice Age cave artists. I have used some of the materials that they used, namely charcoal and natural ochre pigments, also some very diluted paints. In the early stages of the painting hand prints through paper were also included. In our technological world it is good to reach back to our roots, ground ourselves and take stock. We need to experience more of our natural world, the elements, the feel of the outdoors and to look at what our ancestors liked and did. The title Tumbling Through suggests a tumbling back through time to re-visit our roots. If you are looking for a re-connection with our natural world, then maybe this painting might help you to focus and dwell on those things. The painting is on thin canvas and not framed, but the edges are painted with red ochre and covered in sand from St. Ives Beach in Cornwall. If one prefers to frame the piece, it would look good with a simple wooden surround.
