Paul Kingsley Squire

Painter

Paul Kingsley Squire is a London based artist intrigued by themes of metamorphosis and transformation.
Paul has created a diverse portfolio through painting and digital art. His work splits into several distinct categories.

ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS
The abstract landscapes use thick layers of paint to create textures and depth. Paul is interested in how the medium of oil paint can be used to create effects and suggest forms within the painting itself.
These landscapes generate an otherworldly yet naturalistic image, leaving the subject open to interpretation. The intention is to create paintings using experimental techniques, producing work that is abstracted and expressionistic.

PORTRAITS IN OIL
The oil portraits use a different technique and style – flat brushes and palette knives, rather than the round brush techniques employed in the abstract landscapes.
As well as capturing an aspect of the sitters personality he paints a ‘dynamic’ picture with vivid brushstrokes and colour.

DIGITAL PEN AND TABLET
METAMORPHICA & The Danse Macabre
is an ongoing project drawing inspiration from mythology and symbolism. These animal headed hybrids and dead beat fashionistas mix humans with paganistic totemism and skeletal decadence, resulting in a highly stylised ultra modern icon.
Using a digital pen & tablet a framework is drawn in exquisite detail and then meticulously coloured, to create the finished artwork.
The completed pieces are each available as acrylic and aluminium mounted prints, or archival Giclée prints which can be traditionally framed.

DRAWINGS
In 2017 Paul started working on an ongoing portfolio of pencil drawings under the title “Human Nature”.
These drawings explore the interlinking relationship between natural landscapes and the human form, combining detailed drawings of woods and trees with the outlines of (mainly) female forms.
