TRUE BLUE | THE COLOUR OF THE NEW DECADE

"Blue has no dimensions, it is beyond dimensions." Yves Klein

The Pantone Colour of 2020 is Classic Blue 19-4052.

Blue has been a key colour in art and decoration since ancient times and has been nominated to represent the aspirations of the new decade.

Studies claim, early humans didn't see the colour blue and it was only when this primary colour was created in ancient Egypt that use of the word 'Blue' appeared. During the Middle Ages, the recipe for Egyptian blue was lost, and Azurite and expensive Ultramarine from Afghanistan were the sole sources of blue sources available.

Reserved for only the most important elements of commissions, such as the blue robes of the Virgin Mary in Renaissance times it is believed that Michelangelo left his painting The Entombment (1500–01) unfinished because he could not afford to buy more Ultramarine Blue.
In 2009, a new shade of blue was discovered, by accident at Oregon State University. Named YInMn blue, it was released for sale in 2016.

Today, with its ability to instill calm, confidence, and promote connections, the classic, enduring blue hue, chosen by Pantone, symbolises the aspirations we have for dependable and stable foundations in this new decade.
