Christine Bradshaw
I suppose the focus of my paintings is varied; with a scope ranging from the shape of the land around me in South Shropshire, to family portraits.
The shape of buildings and the urban landscape is also an attraction.
The variety of print work here is partly dictated by the print techniques employed; each suggesting different subject matter simply by the marks that are made.
Ideas can spring from anywhere and a large backlog of sketch books continues to be a great source of ideas.
Much of the screen printed work has been in response to an exploration of the architectural language of the urban environment; city, town and country wanderings usually being accompanied by a camera or sketchbook, whereas intaglio work tends towards the more linear – hence the ‘Eric’ series.
.The unexpected in print is one of its attractions for the printmaker as, however carefully planned a print might be, there is always an element of surprise as the screen is lifted or the print emerges from the press.
