Alice Martin is a Scottish contemporary artist currently living and working in Stirlingshire. She is a Member of the Locale Art Collective which regularly exhibits in Glasgow, this includes shows at Cass Art and Govanhill Baths. Martin is also a Committee Member of GOSSIP (Graduate Opportunities Supporting Sustained Independent Practice), which is based in Stirling. Since graduating from Gray’s School of Art (2017) she has continued to create new work and exhibit. She is also pursuing an MLitt in Archaeological Studies at the University of the Highlands and Islands, in order to inform her art practice.
Martin’s practice takes an interdisciplinary route spanning across new media (3D printing/scanning), installation, digital prints, and printmaking. The ideas of museology, contemporary culture, materiality, and revisualisation are central to her work. She is fascinated by the visual and conceptual possibilities stemming from a museological presentation.
In the past, Martin has worked as an intern for The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum. She also collaborated with Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums for her Degree Show. Some of her 3D remixes have been shared by the Musée Saint Raymond at the 8th Regional Forum hosted by CLIC France in Toulouse. Her remixes were also mentioned at the symposium titled New knowledge democracies? Why and how to open the images of public collections to reuses, at the National Institute of Art History in Paris. To accompany the symposium the publication Law of images, history of art and society was released and refers to Martin’s work.
