Anita Rozentale, born in Jurmala, 1990. In 2012 she graduated from Southampton Solent University Fine Art department. This year Anita will be undertaking Master’s degree in Fine Art (Photography pathway) at Glasgow School of Art. She has exhibited in group shows since 2010 as well as has represented England’s South East region for Lloyds TSB Art Of Nurture competition (2010), been a finalist in the Salon Art Prize (2012), was one of the 47 finalists as part of the Summer Art Prize (2016) and was long listed for BP Portrait Award 2016. Anita Rozentale’s work is in private collections in the UK, Germany, Austria, Latvia, Switzerland and USA. Most recently Anita has exhibited her work in her first solo show in Latvia, in Kalnciema Kvartals gallery (2-28 September 2016). Anita creates mixed media artwork, combining drawing, painting and cyanotype techniques. Her practice explores memory, nostalgia and the power of human’s mind - it aims to investigate the differences in people’s cultural, political, historical and social backgrounds and what makes a human being a person and how much has to be added or removed for them to lose their identity and lose a sense of who they are. By questioning photography as a medium on its own right, Anita plays with what at first glance appears to be real but when looking closer - surreal narratives emerge. Anita calls this process “painting with photographs”.
