Aya Udagawa
Over the past few years, I have been considering the simple question -what is my identity?
I am interested in visualising first pure condition that is created from pre- condition which is the state of nothing. And I call this pure condition ‘phenomenon’. This project has really helped me to find my identity, that is by dealing with myself as one phenomenon.
My motivation for creating art is very subjective and is a personal approach more than objective research based. The work can be said to represent my inner space. My work sometimes shows abstract shapes and sometimes words. It is important to try visualizing authentic phenomenon as purely as possible.
Also, I often use transparency and superimpose the images. It is one way of representing time, which shows eternal condition and symbolizes it.
This idea came from my study. I realized that eternity and timelessness is an essence and basis of Art.
As we see in paintings or sculptures, eternity is one of human ideal and one reason for human beings to keep creating work.
