Elaine Bolt
Objects can tell stories. At times the narrative may be clear and overt, at other times, intangible or obscured. I aim to evoke this sense of narrative through the ceramic objects I make and arrange. Collections and groups of objects are central to my practice. As a collection, these objects begin to develop connections between them and with the space they occupy.
My current work explores themes around the intimacy of ‘the everyday’ and the notion of ‘belongings’. Rounded vessels create a hidden, private space through enclosed interiors; whilst ambiguous objects suggest obscure domestic functions. In groupings that hint at museum artifacts or ‘found objects’ they can imply a hidden past, or allow the viewer to contribute their own meaning.
Materials: Thrown vessels and hand-built objects in porcelain, terracotta and mixed-media.
